Alive Festival 2011

2011 saw the 4th Alive Festival and once again Revival Youth Congregation hosted the youth part over the 2nd May Bank Holiday Weekend (28th to 30th May). The Alive Festivals, run by St John’s Church, aim to offer a strong emphasis on Word and Spirit and seek to apply good practice in Charismatic ministry for the East Anglian setting. Alive Youth seeks to give relevant Bible teaching to some of the issues that young people face today. The relaxed atmosphere allows opportunities for young people to grapple with the issues and to ask questions.

In 2011, the main Bible speaker for Alive Youth was Rich Powney. Rich had been working with Viz-A-Viz Ministries in Essex and was due to go on Mission for 6 weeks before going to Bible College in September. Rich has a powerful testimony and brought a varied and interactive teaching programme to the morning sessions.

The Youth Venue is also open in the afternoons and there were some computer consoles available for the young people to chill out with as well as make friendships. Young people were also able to attend seminars that were part of the adult programme and there were also a couple of seminars specifically for the youth during the weekend.  On the Saturday, Emily Hannah from Christian Youth Ministries in Ipswich gave a seminar to encourage young people with their Christian faith at school. On the Monday afternoon, Jamie Hill from the Bible Society gave a seminar on whether we can trust the Bible.

In the evenings, there was a celebration for the youth. This allowed more time for worship songs and prayer ministry as well as visiting speakers. On Saturday, Emily Hannah gave a talk looking at Jesus’ story, the one we are called to follow. Sunday evening we welcomed Rachel Gardner from the Romance Academy who talked about the biggest decision we will ever make, whether to follow Jesus or not. Monday evening saw Jamie Hill answering the question on whether we need the Bible.

We were very fortunate to have good weather and enjoyed the opportunity to play outside in between the sessions.
Alive Festival will be running again in 2012 from Saturday 5th to Monday 7th May (note the change to the 1st May Bank Holiday). We would love for you to book to come for the whole weekend, but you can also book for one or two days. It would be great to see you. Check out www.alivefestival.org for more information.
