Over the second May Bank Holiday weekend (23rd-25th May) in 2009 Revival Youth Congregation once again were part of “Alive”. This is a festival run by St John’s Church and followed a successful first year in 2008. Alive09, like Alive08, aimed to offer a strong emphasis on Word and Spirit, seeking to apply good practice in Charismatic ministry for the East Anglian setting. Revival hosted the Youth part of a wider festival catering for adults, children and young people.
In September 2009 we had a wonderful weekend at the Horstead Centre in Norfolk. We were blessed with sunny weather. Read on for more pictures and news of what we got up to.
Half four on a Friday afternoon and we all pile into the coach for the two hour trip to the Horstead Centre just north of Norwich. After our evening meal, lovingly prepared by the centre staff, we had the first of our discipleship sessions.
Every year young people from Revival Youth Congregation attend Soul Survivor.
Soul Survivor started as the youth event at New Wine Festival several years ago. New Wine is a Christian Festival started by a Church of England church. Soul Survivor has become a festival in its own right and now attracts 20,000+ young people over two weeks. Soul Survivor has a safe Christian environment that is welcoming to both churched and unchurched young people.
For about 10 days in July and August 6 young people and 4 leaders returned to Comanesti in Romania.
As with previous years, the group went to Comanesti in the North-East part of Romania . The main link that the group has in Romania is with a charity called Cry in the Dark, who have built and now run an orphanage for young people with physical and learning difficulties in Comanesti. This orphanage is called Casa Lumina (House of Light). Over the years, we have also forged links with the Baptist Church in the town (next door to Casa Lumina). We have also made links with an estate in the town near to Casa Lumina. This is the story of some of those who were on the Mission Trip, starting with Andi Naude and the work on the estate: -
Over the weekend 19th to 21st October 2007 part of the church yard at St John’s was taken over by about 25 to 30 young people looking for a home. They managed to get some wooden pallets, cardboard and plastic sheeting to construct temporary living accommodation.
Actually, it was a planned and organised event – “Slum Survivor”. It was an event that the young people and leaders were challenged to put on at Soul Survivor. Soul Action, a joint organisation between Soul Survivor and TearFund, challenged young people to live in a makeshift slum for a weekend, just like one billion people in the world do everyday.
